Topic: Achieving financial success through improved data recording
Abstract:
The General Systems Support unit at Mayo Clinic recently embarked on an 18-month journey to improve their haphazard use of three cornerstone tools into a coordinated, reliable, and accurate metric-gathering system. Leveraging their data, they have been able to provide unprecedented clarity and transparency to their customers about the work they are doing and how much it costs. Simultaneously, they have improved the accuracy of their billable hours, which has in turn led to an increase in revenue. In this presentation, the methodology of this transition will be reviewed and explored.
Biography:
Dan Cozine is an IT Service Delivery Manager at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He has 13 years of experience as an IT professional, 9 of which have been at Mayo Clinic. His passions include defining and refining workflows for efficiency, managing with data, and evangelizing new or underutilized toolsets across IT. In his current position, Dan manages a team of 23 developers who support roughly 175 applications across a broad spectrum of technology stacks, degrees of customization, and complexity. Dan and his team serve more than 25 internal customer areas ranging from Development (Fundraising) to Global Security to Telecommunications to Occupational Health. Understanding the work his team was doing and who they were doing it for was a key motivator for Dan to find a way to track and characterize his team’s performance.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Computer Engineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Studies from the University of Minnesota, as well as a Master of Science in Management of Technology, also from the University of Minnesota. His wife, Elizabeth, is a Family Medicine physician at Mayo Clinic, and they have three kids, ages 9, 6, and 4.
