Exam registration and fees are managed separately through DAMA-International. This year we are offering the Pay-If-You-Pass exam, courtesy of DAMA-International. This unique oppportunity is extended to DAMA-MN study group members who wish to take the exam at no cost, and if you pass, you are then offered the opportunity to pay $300. Regular exam fee is $311.

    March Chapter Meeting

    MEMBER SHARE from Target

Data Quality Maturity: A Retrospective of Target’s Product Data Journey

Over the past decade, Target’s item data domain has evolved through multiple stages of data quality maturity. This presentation offers a retrospective of that journey, highlighting key wins, lessons learned, and the tools developed along the way. Attendees will gain practical insights into advancing data quality maturity within operational data environments, grounded in real-world experience.

The session emphasizes that effective data quality and governance are fundamentally people-driven—requiring shared ownership, clear accountability, and strong alignment with day-to-day business operations. Looking back, we will also share what we learned and what we would approach differently if starting again today.

Finally, the presentation explores how data governance is enabled through critical artifacts such as data catalogs, documentation, performance metrics, scorecards, dashboards, and business rule engines that support validation, monitoring, and the prevention of poor-quality data.

    Takeaways:

    • Understanding the 4 critical phases of data quality maturity and the nessesity to revisit phases over time.
    • Shareing the importance of having a strong operational and fuctional structure of people to help the practice mature.
    • Learning about 3 important artifacts that organizations will need to be successful.

    April Chapter Meeting

    People and Data

Starting a data program is an incredibly difficult task:  Opportunities and challenges abound, but there is so much urgency, so little budget, and so much fear, as employees wonder if AI is coming for their jobs.  It’s no wonder that progress is slow and uncertain.

We’ve found that the best (maybe only) way to deal with these uncertainties is to embrace them head on.  First up is getting everyone involved.  This may seem counterintuitive.  But think about it for a minute:  Almost everyone uses and creates data every day; they need it to make decisions; and their efforts make or break efforts to transform.

Second up is recognizing that “data is a team” sport, making it easier for people to work together.

This presentation aims to illuminate why putting people first is so essential, defining what it is they should do, and building the organizational infrastructure to unlock the teamwork needed to make it happen.

    Takeaways:

    • Data Management is conducted by “regular people” so they can do their job.
    • AI is Data
    • AI changes relationships

    Agenda:
    • 11:45 AM – 12:05 PM | Greetings, Chapter News & Community Updates
    • 12:05 – 12:55 PM | Featured Speaker
    • 12:55 – 1:00 AM | Closing Announcements
